Bio

Kamila Shamsie writes in the English language. She was influenced by the Kashmiri poet Agha Shahid Ali. She wrote five novels. Her first and third novels, In The City by the Sea and Kartography were shortlisted for the John Llewellyn Rhys Prize in the UK. She also received the Prime Minister's Award for Literature in Pakistan. Shamsie's second novel, Salt and Saffron was selected as one of Orange's 21 Writers of the 21st  century.  Both third and fourth Broken Verses novels won the Patras Bokhari Award from the Acadamy of Letters in Pakistan. Fifth novel Burnt Shadows of Shamsie was shortlisted for the Orange Prize for Friction.
